Let's Upload and Share Your Snippets
What is snippet? according to the Wikipedia, snippet is a small region of re-usable source code, machine code or text. Is it matter? for me, personally, yes it is. If you are a programmer or a designer that use small portion of codes/text frequently, you will be aware about it.
Previously snippets was saved on native snippet management that built on text editor/IDE. As the internet usage being larger, now snippets have special places on the internet that have ability to store bunch of snippets and ability to share with other people. The advantages of putting your snippets on a public snippet repository is mutual benefit, your snippets will be usable for others and you gain benefits from others snippets.
So.. where is the place to put my snippets online? actually there are a lot of websites that provide this service. In this post I will cover two of them that I use frequently. So, here they are:
Gist Github
Gist is a snippets service by github, an online project hosting that using Git. You can share your snippets without registering and your snippets will be public accessible by default. I suggest you to register for an account, so you can manage all your snippets and you will have ability to make private snippets.
Embedding snippets into webpage is their feature that I love. Below is the example of gist embed feature.
Snipt
Snipt is cool service to store your snippets online. The registration is pretty easy, even better you can also use your openid. Tagging support on snipt makes you able to manage your snippets effectively. I have collected some snippets on my Snipt account (hopefully, I tagged them properly). Like Gist, Snipt also support embed feature, check below.
If you want to know other online snippets services, you can check post on Smashing Magazine. Try one by one or choose one or some of them that you feel suitable for your needs. Believe me, this is absolutely useful. If you have any comments, feel free to put them below ;)
